Uninstall Anaconda From a PC
There are times when you have a program installed on your computer that no longer serves you well. You may have simply stopped using a particular program or perhaps you’ve found a different program you like better. Whatever the case may be, you now have a program taking up valuable space on your hard drive that you need to remove. Fortunately, this is usually pretty straightforward. However, there are some programs that can prove to be a bit tricky to remove. One such program is Anaconda, a program that often runs with Python.
What Is Anaconda?
Anaconda is a very specific program that runs with some Python programs (for example, Python 3.6 or later). Python itself is used for certain scientific calculations and data. Anaconda was designed to help streamline all of that information so that is both easier to work with and less taxing on your computer’s hard drive. It’s mainly used for large-scale data, the kind that involves a great deal of mathematics or scientific calculations. It’s supposed to make Python run more smoothly. However, that isn’t always the case. In fact, some people who have used it found that it wasn’t everything they had hoped it would be. Trying to uninstall it can also prove difficult from time to time. If you’ve experienced more than your fair share of struggles with it yourself, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading to find out how to successfully uninstall Anaconda so you don;t have to worry about bogging down your computer needlessly.

Fortunately, it’s not as difficult to uninstall Anaconda on a PC as you might think. The first thing you need to do is go into Windows Explorer. This is where you will ultimately delete all the files marked envelope and packages. Once you have located these files, run your Uninstall program. This will get you roughly halfway through the process. Once you have finished here, move on to your Control Panel. Go to “Add or Remove Programs” or “Uninstall.” You will see one or the other, depending on which Windows system you are running. Click on the uninstall option you have and then choose the version of Python with Anaconda you are running. The computer’s operating system will do the rest, in conjunction with your uninstall program.
What if This doesn’t Uninstall Anaconda Entirely?
There are some Python users who go through these steps and then find that there are still a few files here and there that weren’t uninstalled. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it can. If it does happen to you, you can run a special Anaconda-Clean program that will permanently remove the files that are leftover. This should completely clear your computer of anything associated with Anaconda.

What should you do if you have already done everything recommended here and you still can’t completely uninstall Anaconda? There is still one more thing you can try, although it may not work for everyone. If you have only recently installed Anaconda and you have properly backed-up all of your files since then, you can perform a System Restore that sets your computer back to a date prior to the Anaconda installation. Remember, this should only be done as a last resort, as it can cause you to lose other important information not related to Anaconda.
Take Away
The most important thing to remember here is that you should handle uninstalling Anaconda just as you should handle anything else. Try uninstalling the program first and see where that gets you. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, move on to the Anaconda-Clean program in order to remove any additional files that weren’t successfully removed when you uninstalled Anaconda. You can always go back and restore your system to a date before you installed the program if you can’t rid your computer of it by any other means. However, you should ensure that you have backed-up all of your files before you do this, as you will likely have to reinstall other programs once Anaconda has been removed. The other important thing you should be aware of is that Anaconda also runs on Mac. The process for removing the program on a PC is entirely different from that use for Mac. Therefore, be sure that you are following the appropriate steps for the computer you are using.
